Hi, I’m Heather.
I love helping people with the things that come easy to me and feel impossibly hard to them, and for me, websites, tech and AI are all of those things.
I’ve spent about twenty years building things on the internet, and somewhere along the way I noticed that the part everyone dreads, the fonts and the photos and the copy and figuring out why the form won’t send, is the part I would happily do on a Sunday with a glass of wine. So when a woman tells me she’s been meaning to fix her website for two years, I know exactly how that feels, because I’ve watched so many brilliant women put their own thing last.
Maybe you bought the template, watched the tutorial at eleven at night, and closed the laptop wondering if you’re just not a tech person. What does optimized for AI search mean?
More people now ask ChatGPT, Claude and Google’s AI for recommendations instead of scrolling search results. I build your site so those tools can read it and understand it: structured data (schema), clear answers to the questions your clients ask, and the words they actually search for. A pretty site they can’t read doesn’t get recommended.
How do you build a website in one hour?
First you tell me about your business on a short call or a Loom. Then I design, write and build your site in one focused hour, and connect your domain right after. No weeks of back and forth, no learning a platform at midnight.
How much does a website cost?
Websites start at $499, paid once. No subscriptions, ever. Extras like online payments or a store are quoted separately on our call.
Are there any monthly fees?
Not from me. Hosting on Netlify is free for most small sites, and your only ongoing cost is your domain renewal, paid directly to your registrar.
Is AI search different from Google SEO?
They share the same foundations. Clear structure, fast pages, schema and real answers help you show up in Google and get recommended by ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Google’s AI Overviews. I build for both.
What is voice search, and why should I care?
It’s what happens when someone asks Siri, Alexa, Google Assistant or ChatGPT a question with their voice, like “who makes wedding cakes near me?” Instead of ten blue links, they hear one answer. More and more searches start this way, on phones, in cars and on smart speakers. I write and structure your site so that it can be that one answer. It takes time, and no one can promise a spot, but this gives you a real shot.
How do I show up when someone asks Siri, Alexa or ChatGPT?
Answer the questions your customers actually ask, in plain language, on your own site. I add FAQs written the way people talk, schema that tells search engines exactly what you do, where and for whom, and clear details assistants can trust. Then I make sure Google and Bing can find every page.
Why does Bing matter?
Bing feeds a lot of the AI answers people get, including Microsoft Copilot and, in part, ChatGPT search. Most people skip it completely. I don’t: your site gets set up for Google and Bing.
Will you help get my site indexed?
Yes. You get a sitemap, then we submit it in Google Search Console and request indexing for your key pages, then import into Bing Webmaster Tools and submit there too. Most new sites skip this step and wait weeks to be found.
How long until I show up on Google and AI search?
Google can pick up new pages within days once they’re submitted, but rankings and AI recommendations build over weeks and months. Nobody can promise a spot, not me and not Google. What I can promise is a site built the right way from day one, so you’re not starting behind.
Who do you build websites for?
Founders and small business owners who would rather run their business than build a website: bakers, coaches, swim brands, planners, salons, florists, wineries and retreats.
Can you write my copy?
Yes. Copy is included, written in your words and your voice, with the questions your clients ask answered right on the page.
Can you work with my existing brand?
Yes. Send your logo, fonts, colours and any brand guide with your brief and I will build around them. No brand yet? I will design a look that fits you, from type and palette to custom graphics.
What do I need to bring?
Your idea, your logo if you have one, and any photos you love. No photos yet? I can create on-brand imagery for launch.
Will my site work on phones?
Yes. Every site is built mobile ready and checked on phone and desktop before launch.
Do you design logos?
No. First Light is not a logo studio. If you don’t have a logo yet, your name is set beautifully in type that fits your brand.
Can you set up a shop or take payments?
Not in the $499. First Light is not a Shopify store, so payments and checkout are quoted separately. We talk through what you need on our call.
What about fonts?
If your brand fonts aren’t licensed yet, I license them for you and bill them at cost.
Do I own it?
Yes. The code is yours and it is hosted on Netlify, which is free for most small sites. No platform subscription holding your site hostage.
Can I connect my own domain?
Yes. If you already own a domain, I connect it at launch so your site goes live on your own address. No domain yet? I will help you pick and register one.
What about changes later?
Small fixes are included for fourteen days after launch. After that, updates are booked by the hour, so you are never locked into a monthly plan.
Where are you based?
Between Rome and New York. I work with clients wherever they are, over video call.
Can I start from one of these sites?
Yes. If one of the sites here feels like you, we use it as the starting point and customise it from there, with your name, colours, copy and imagery, so it becomes entirely yours. I’m always creating new templates and adding them to the site, so if you don’t see your style yet, check back soon.
